Miracle Drug

Amazing song by U2...... the lyrics... the music... the beats... just amazing... (my fav parts in bold :) )

I want a trip inside your head
Spend the day there…
To hear the things you haven't said
And see what you might see

I want to hear you when you call
Do you feel anything at all?
I want to see your thoughts take shape
And walk right out

Freedom has a scent
Like the top of a new born baby's head

The songs are in your eyes
I see them when you smile
I've seen enough I'm not giving up
On a miracle drug

Of science and the human heart
There is no limit
There is no failure here sweetheart
Just when you quit…

I am you and you are mine
Love makes nonsense of space
And time… will disappear
Love and logic keep us clear
Reason is on our side, love…

The songs are in your eyes
I see them when you smile
I've had enough of romantic love
I'd give it up, yeah, I'd give it up
For a miracle, a miracle drug, a miracle drug

God I need your help tonight

Beneath the noise
Below the din
I hear your voice
It's whispering
In science and in medicine
“I was a stranger
You took me in”

The songs are in your eyes
I see them when you smile
I've had enough of romantic love
I'd give it up, yeah, I'd give it up
For a miracle, miracle drug

This song has an interesting history attached to it. "Miracle Drug" is the second track from U2's 2004 album, How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb. It was written about the late Irish writer Christopher Nolan, with whom the band attended Mount Temple Comprehensive School.

Bono said of Nolan - “We all went to the same school and just as we were leaving, a fellow called Christopher Nolan arrived. He had been deprived of oxygen for two hours when he was born, so he was paraplegic. But his mother believed he could understand what was going on and used to teach him at home. Eventually, they discovered a drug that allowed him to move one muscle in his neck. So they attached this unicorn device to his forehead and he learned to type. And out of him came all these poems that he'd been storing up in his head. Then he put out a collection called Dam-Burst of Dreams, which won a load of awards and he went off to university and became a genius. All because of a mother's love and a medical breakthrough."

It is one of only two U2 songs to feature three members of U2 on vocals - Bono, The Edge, and Mullen. The only other is "Numb" from the Zooropa album.

When you're gone

This is a real touching song by Cranberries sung in a soul-stirring way...atleast it stirs up mine... I can almost feel her voice cutting across my body and touching my heart...

Hold onto love that is what I do now that I've found you
And from above everything's stinking, they're not around you
And in the night, I could be helpless
I could be lonely, sleeping without you

And in the day, everything's complex
There's nothing simple, when I'm not around you
But I'll miss you when you're gone, that is what I do, hey, baby
And it's going to carry on, that is what I do, hey, baby

Hold onto my hands, I feel I'm sinking, sinking without you
And to my mind, everything's stinking, stinking without you
And in the night, I could be helpless
I could be lonely, sleeping without you

And in the day, everything's complex
There's nothing simple, when I'm not around you
But I'll miss you when you're gone, that is what I do, hey, baby
And it's going to carry on, that is what I do, hey, baby

Flying without wings

I am moved by beautiful words. Be it a beautiful one line or a long para or story....Almost all of my favourite songs have such heart touching lyrics that leave me completely spell-bound. In this blog I will share such songs which have shaped my moods, my thoughts and my life.

Flying without wings is a beautiful song by the Irish band Westlife. It was released in 1999 and I think i had heard it the first time around that time only. This song has stayed with me over the years because in plain simple words it is amazing. It makes you feel good about the small things in your life. It makes you feel that your struggles in life are worthwhile, that at the end you will Fly Without Wings When You Find That Special Thing!

Given below are the lyrics:

Everybody's looking for that something
One thing that makes it all complete
You find it in the strangest places

Places you never knew it could be

Some find it in the face of their children
Some find it in their lover's eyes
Who can deny the joy it brings
When you found that special thing
You're flying without wings

Some find it sharing every morning
Some in their solitary lives
You find it in the words of others
A simple line can make you laugh or cry

You find it in the deepest friendship
The kind you cherish all your life
And when you know how much that means
You've found that special thing
You're flying without wings

So impossible as they may seem
You've got to fight for every dream
'Cause who's to know
Which one you let go
Would have made you complete

Well, for me it's waking up beside you
To watch the sunrise on your face
To know that I can say I love you
In any given time or place
It's little things that only I know
Those are the things that make you mine

And it's like flying without wings
'Cause you're my special thing
I'm flying without wings

And you're the place my life begins
And you'll be where it ends
I'm flying without wings
And that's the joy you bring
I'm flying without wings

I have highlighted my favorite parts of the song in bold though all the lines are so beautiful and inspiring that I feel like highlighting the entire song. Given below is also the YouTube link to the song.

Enjoy fellas... Love Life and Keep Flying...

Aubade - Meaning & Origin

I first heard the word 'Aubade' from one of my friend and it is such a beautiful word that it has been there in my mind ever since.

Aubade means:

  • a song or poem greeting the dawn
  • a song or poem of lovers parting at dawn
  • a morning love song

Source:Merriam Webster
  • a piece sung or played outdoors at dawn, usually as a compliment to someone
Source:Dictionary.com

Origin of the word:
"Aubade" is a French word that first romanced speakers of the English language during the 1670s. In French it means "dawn serenade," and that is the meaning that English-speakers originally fell in love with. As the relationship of "aubade" with the English language grew, its meanings became a little more intimate. It blossomed into a word for a song or poem of lovers parting at dawn. Later it came to refer to songs sung in the morning hours. The affair between "aubade" and the dawn began with the Old Occitan word "auba," meaning "dawn." "Auba" itself is believed to come from Latin "albus," meaning "white."

Example of Usage:

The play opens with the heroine's lover awakening her with a sweet aubade.

"The score, in five movements, has a French flavor, no doubt inspired by the harp. The second movement is an aubade, the old troubadour form that French composers love." — From a music review by Mark Swed in the Los Angeles Times, August 21, 2011
